Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, will present the annual Maytum Convocation Lecture at SUNY Fredonia, “Human Rights: With Liberty and Justice for All?” on Wednesday, Sept. 24. She has also been named a Williams Distinguished Visiting Professor at Fredonia.

"The Synergy Project," an installation by artist Claudia Esslinger, will open with a free public reception on Friday, Sept. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the university art gallery. The exhibit will continue through October 1.

The sev enth annual Jurgen P. Banse-Fay Production Management Internship Award at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center has been presented to Rick Haug, a BFA Production Design major at the State University of New York at Fredonia

Student vocalists will join Bruce Johnstone and the Little Apple Big Band on Friday, May 16, at 8 p.m. for the 2008 Commencement Eve Pops Concert: “Big Band Classics.”  The student performers were chosen by competitive auditions earlier this semester.

The upcoming Walter Gloor Mainstage Series production of “Victor/Victoria” will be a large undertaking in every sense of the word.  The show opens April 25 in Marvel Theatre and features a cast of 30, a crew of 40, a 26-person orchestra, a production and design crew of 16, nine different full sets — including a one that depicts two floors of a hotel — and 16 scene changes.

Set in the tumultous city of Berlin as Hitler rises to power, "Cabaret" will be performed by students of the SUNY Fredonia Performing Arts Company on April 18, 19, and 20 in Bartlett Theatre. Tickets are available at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office or online.

The SUNY Fredonia Concert Band will give its final performance of the year on Monday, April 21 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music presents the final College Symphony Orchestra concert of the year on Saturday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Two resident vocal ensembles in the Fredonia School of Music will present a choral concert Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The Women’s Choir will be directed by Professor Gwen Coleman Detwiler, and the University Chorus will perform under the baton of Professor Barbara Brinson.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music will present its second annual collaborative concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) on Friday, April 11 at 8:00 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. A post-concert reception will follow, free to all who attend the concert. Tickets are available online or by calling the SUNY Fredonia ticket office at 716-673-3501.

In his travels through Morocco, filmmaker Rick Ray discovered a “peaceful, progressive, well-educated, forward-looking society.” He attributes this, in part, to Morocco’s young monarch, King Mohammed VI. Now age 44, Mohammed VI came to power in 1999.

Classical ballet, Latin jazz, modern dance and dance theatre will all be on display in a 90 minute-plus extravaganza with the Fredonia Dance Ensemble from March 6 to 9 in Marvel Theatre at the State University of New York at Fredonia. “We’ve been working on this concert since the end of August,” said Helen Myers, coordinator of dance at SUNY Fredonia. “These are all new pieces.”

As the world’s foremost comedy jugglers, the Gizmo Guys have amused and amazed audiences around the globe – and now they are coming back to Rockefeller Arts Center for a night of family fun. The Gizmo Guys Family Show will take center stage in Marvel Theatre on Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m.

The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, will present its first concert of the spring semester on Saturday, March 8, at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall.  Featured soloists on the program are Fredonia violin professor, Janet Sung, and Fredonia percussion music major, Doug Feig.  The event is free and open to the public

The SUNY Fredonia College Symphony, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, will perform in King Concert Hall on Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. This concert features one of this year’s School of Music Concerto Competition Winners, Taishi Nonaka, cellist, performing Camille Saint-Saens’ “Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in A minor.”
