Wendy Corsi Staub Book Signing event plannedWendy Corsi Staub, the 2008 commencement speaker, will be at the University Bookstore for a book signing on Friday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m. A native of Dunkirk, N.Y., and a graduate of the English Department, she writes suspense thrillers and young adult novels.  Ms. Corsi Staub is a regular among such bestseller lists as USA Today, Barnes & Noble’s Top Ten, and Bookscan, in addition to the New York Times, which included her latest novel, Don’t Scream, for five weeks.

Roberta Guaspari, ’69, unveils new scholarship

Fredonia’s School of Music welcomed home one of its most successful alumna on Friday afternoon to not only give this year’s Convocation Address to its faculty and students, but also make a surprise announcement which will positively impact Fredonia’s students forever.  The alumna who inspired the movie, “Music of the Heart,” dedicated the scholarship to the Fredonia professors who inspired her.

‘Big Band Classics’ on tap for commencement eve

Pops concert vocalists rehearsingThe sound of classic big band music will fill King Concert Hall on campus Friday, May 16 at 8 p.m. when the DFT Communications Pops Series at Rockefeller Arts Center presents the 2008 Commencement Eve Pops Concert: “Big Band Classics.”  Featuring Bruce Johnstone and the Little Apple Big Band, the concert will include some of the greatest big band songs of all time. Helping to bring the songs to life will be student performers chosen by competitive auditions earlier this semester.

Results announced for Kids Day effort

Kids Day issueMore than 350 students from SUNY Fredonia raised $3,569.19 for the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo by selling the 2008 Kids Day edition of The Buffalo News recently.  Involvement from SUNY Fredonia is coordinated by the Office of Residence Life each year.  A total of 24 different campus groups, including the residence halls, sold the newspapers around campus entrances and in the village.

Fundraising campaign for university announced

SUNY Fredonia and the Fredonia College Foundation today announced the public phase of a five-year, $15 million capital campaign — the longest and largest capital campaign in Fredonia’s 182-year history. The dollars generated during the campaign, entitled, “Doors to Success: the Campaign for Fredonia,” will be used primarily to fund scholarships, educational enrichment, academic program enhancement and cultural programming.

Senior TV host brings "Aqua Kids" show to WNY

Molly McKinney of "Aqua Kids"As hostess for “AquaKids,” a nationally syndicated children’s television program, SUNY Fredonia senior Molly McKinney has done location shoots in the Bahamas, where she monitored Caribbean reef sharks, and in Bimini, where she swam alongside wild spotted dolphins. But early this month, she brought her crew to tape shows in her college stomping grounds of Western New York.
