Julia Hopson, shown in photo, was chosen for September 2008 Student of the Month by the Residence Life Student of the Month Committee for her dedication to athletics, academics, and campus community involvement as a whole.
Julia (senior, Visual Arts & New Media major) is an outstanding student, athlete, and artist from Poughkeepsie, NY.
She is a captain for the women's track & field team, received the Keeper of the Dream Scholarship, is a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC), and the Golden Key National Honor Society. She holds several SUNYAC, ECAC and Fredonia State records in track and field.
She was also selected as one of 30 athletes across the country to have her art work featured in an NCAA publication.
This year she wants to be 2-time All-American in women's track & field. She enjoys Fredonia's friendly atmosphere and all the opportunities that are available.
Julia's future goals are to be a successful designer. Julia has completed the student leadership program in Campus Life and is thinking about grad school after graduation.

Nearly 100 students and five campus employees will be inducted into the SUNY Fredonia chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society at a ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209. The induction ceremony will include full academic procession.

Roderick MacDonald was principal trumpet player in a trio of concerts from September through October this fall by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra of Germany. Directed by world class conductor Herbert Blomstedt, the orchestra and MacDonald performed in Leipzig, Stuttgart, & London.
The program included works by Anton Bruckner, Richard Wagner, and many others.
MacDonald, a member of the Fredonia School of Music faculty, has interviewed Professor Blomstedt for an upcoming issue of the International Trumpet Guild Journal for an article highlighting trumpet playing and its traditions in the orchestra. Sophomore and childhood education major Christine Padasak of Springville, N.Y., is one of 40 students nationwide with Cystic fibrosis who have received a $2,500 scholarship from Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., based on her essay about achieving her goals despite living with the disease. She is now eligible for a $10,000 scholarship from the company which will be awarded through an on-line voting process.

Todd Proffitt (theatre arts and dance) was the lighting designer this summer for the Cortland Repertory Theatre Company. He designed the lighting for “8 Track Sounds of the 70’s”, “Leading Ladies”, Mousetrap” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." While there, he worked alongside SUNY Fredonia alumni Jessica Mykins and Marcus Goldhaber, and current student Mark Andrew Reeve.

Clifton Wheeler, an investigator and head of the shooter team for the University Police department at SUNY Fredonia, won four medals at the North American Indigenous Games, held Aug. 2 to 10 in British Columbia. The Gowanda, N.Y., resident won one gold and three silver medals in rifle shooting.
