The screenings are hosted by the Native American Student Union and the Native American SUNY Western Consortium as part of National American Indian Heritage Month. One of the world’s leading researchers in cryobiology will return to his alma mater, SUNY Fredonia, for public presentations and informal talks Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 5 and 6. A 1965 biology graduate, John G. Baust has studied strategies in low temperature biology that have led to new cancer therapies. Entitled, “From Bugs and Butterflies to Cancer Therapies,” his first talk will be given Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. in Jewett Hall Room 101. The public is invited.

Balloting is underway at 32 colleges and universities across the nation, including SUNY Fredonia, in the first round of the competition for the Most Vegetarian-Friendly College, a contest sponsored by PETA2. The nomination signifies that Fredonia offers bountiful vegan and vegetarian menus for the discriminating appetite.

The Department of Political Science, The College of Natural and Social Sciences and The Political Science Association are sponsoring this year’s Constitution Day Panel Discussion entitled, "The Race for the Presidency," on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in S-104 of the Williams Center. Panel Members include Professors Jonathan Chausovsky, James Hurtgen and David Rankin of the Department of Political Science. Panelists will discuss the impact of the Electoral College on presidential campaigns, campaign finance and the state of presidential rhetoric in the modern presidency. The Fredonia College Foundation is launching its 2008-09 All-Campus Appeal Monday, Sept. 15, encouraging faculty and staff members to make a gift to the current "Doors to Success" campaign. As a special incentive for payroll deduction gifts directed to specific endowments, the Fredonia College Foundation Board of Directors has authorized $60,000 in 1-for-2 matching funding.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the men's ice hockey team will host “Power Plays for Cancer,” to officially unveil the team’s extended commitment to raising funds to battle cancer. From its first game of the season on Oct. 17 until its 2009 “Pink the Rink” game on Feb. 7, 2009, supporters will be asked to pledge money for every power play goal Fredonia scores.
