Students at SUNY Fredonia talk about what they like about their college experiences in a new series of videos which have been launched on the university website.  “Fredonia Live" was produced by students and features some of SUNY Fredonia's most talented student actors, directors and musicians.

Poet, musician, author and artist Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee/Creek Nation, will share some of her world-famous poetry with the SUNY Fredonia campus at 7 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 12, in room 209 of McEwen Hall.

Two Native American films will be screened on the SUNY Fredonia campus during November.   The screenings are hosted by the Native American Student Union and the Native American SUNY Western Consortium as part of National American Indian Heritage Month. All students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend the free screenings.

SUNY Fredonia’s American Studies program, together with the class, “Sustainability and America” (AMST 399), led by Dr. Christina Jarvis, is hosting a movie night and panel discussion regarding recycling.  The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall on the Fredonia campus, beginning with a panel discussion on recycling and American sustainability.

One of the world’s leading researchers in cryobiology will return to his alma mater, SUNY Fredonia, for public presentations and informal talks Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 5 and 6. A 1965 biology graduate, John G. Baust has studied strategies in low temperature biology that have led to new cancer therapies. Entitled, “From Bugs and Butterflies to Cancer Therapies,” his first talk will be given Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. in Jewett Hall Room 101. The public is invited.

Balloting is underway at 32 colleges and universities across the nation, including SUNY Fredonia, in the first round of the competition for the Most Vegetarian-Friendly College, a contest sponsored by PETA2.  The nomination signifies that Fredonia offers bountiful vegan and vegetarian menus for the discriminating appetite.

The fourth annual “Fall Sweep” will take place Sunday, Nov. 9, involving hundreds of students who will serve the community by raking leaves and other debris on Temple Street, Central Avenue and smaller side streets in the Village of Fredonia.

Award-winning children’s author Linda Sue Park will present, “Writing to Explore Liberty and Justice for All,” on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall. The event, which is part of SUNY Fredonia’s 2008-09 Convocation Series, is free and open to students, faculty and the general public.

Members of the SUNY Fredonia campus community are urged to sign up for SUNY NY-Alert, a secure, web-based emergency alert system implemented on campus and created and maintained by the New York State Emergency Management Office. The system will replace TextCaster, which is being phased out on the SUNY Fredonia campus

Learn about international opportunities as last year’s Fulbright recipients and international scholars share their experiences during the International Brown Bag lunch series.  All presentations will take place from noon to 12:50 in Fenton Hall's English Reading room (Fenton 127). Beverages will be provided.

The SUNY Fredonia Department of Visual Arts and New Media will welcome Emily Hubley — a 30-year veteran of the animation industry — to campus to speak on Oct. 2 at 8:30 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall. The event is free and open to the public

The Best of Broadway will perform its program “Broadway Showstoppers” on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The show follows last November’s Best of Broadway performance of “The Songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber,” which proved to be the most popular single event in the 2007-08 season.

The Department of Political Science, The College of Natural and Social Sciences and The Political Science Association are sponsoring this year’s Constitution Day Panel Discussion entitled, "The Race for the Presidency," on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in S-104 of the Williams Center. Panel Members include Professors Jonathan Chausovsky, James Hurtgen and David Rankin of the Department of Political Science. Panelists will discuss the impact of the Electoral College on presidential campaigns, campaign finance and the state of presidential rhetoric in the modern presidency.   All members of the college and community are welcome.

The Fredonia College Foundation is launching its 2008-09 All-Campus Appeal Monday, Sept. 15, encouraging faculty and staff members to make a gift to the current "Doors to Success" campaign. As a special incentive for payroll deduction gifts directed to specific endowments, the Fredonia College Foundation Board of Directors has authorized $60,000 in 1-for-2 matching funding.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the men's ice hockey team will host “Power Plays for Cancer,” to officially unveil the team’s extended commitment to raising funds to battle cancer. From its first game of the season on Oct. 17 until its 2009 “Pink the Rink” game on Feb. 7, 2009, supporters will be asked to pledge money for every power play goal Fredonia scores.
