Rosch Recital Hall at SUNY Fredonia to record the debut album of 16-year-old violinist Caroline Goulding, a rising talent who has already performed with major orchestras in Cleveland and Detroit and won several young-artist honors.

In announcing the SUNY Fredonia for honorable mention in its national contest, the PETA2 website stated, “At Fredonia, the university has added vegan tortellini, vegan seitan subs and faux-chicken and faux-beef ramen stir fries, to the delight of the student population!” The judges added that Fredonia is a “rising star in the contest and we look forward to seeing them in 2009.”

An impressive total of 17 items – from plastic bottles to newspapers to tin cans – may now be deposited into one single recycling bin. Gone are the days when there were blue-colored bins for just paper in residence halls and offices, and students and faculty were asked to cart other recyclables to central collection sites in their buildings. Five students, all members of the local Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter, are assisting the Sustainability Committee by adopting the green recycling bin program for a class project in an upper-level Business Administration course.

The SUNY Fredonia Department of Environmental Health & Safety offers a wide variety of employee training at no cost for departments all over campus, including the SUNY Lifesaver course in CPR and automatic defibrillators (AED).

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, President Dennis L. Hefner, together with campus and community officials, dedicated the new Centre Pointe Lounge. The 28,000-square-foot project, which replaces the long-standing Connections cafeteria, includes the complete renovation of the entire lower level of the Williams Center.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, the campus will officially dedicate the $4 million Centre Pointe Lounge, which replaces the long-standing “Connections” food court in the basement of the Williams Center. The facility began operations today, but its official ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“Anchors and Gears,” a work created by sculptor Brett Hunter, has been installed in the green space between Mason Hall and Reed Library on the SUNY Fredonia campus. Standing more than six feet tall, it was made from pieces of granite and steel over the course of several months.
