The Brigham Road entrance to SUNY Fredonia’s campus is closed until further notice while crews undertake a redesign of Lake Way Drive and the parking area in front of University Stadium. President Dennis L. Hefner gave the campus and Dunkirk-Fredonia communities their first glimpse of the highly anticipated SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator on Thursday, Jan. 31, when he reviewed several design boards for the planned 21,000-square-foot, two-story facility. The Incubator, to be located on a vacant parcel of land at 214 Central Avenue in the City of Dunkirk, will be able to support up to 31 start-up companies.

An architectural firm based in Buffalo will shepherd development of SUNY Fredonia’s new $4.7 million Campus and Community Children’s Center, beginning with program design work and extending all the way through construction administration. Markus Kessler, director of facilities planning at SUNY Fredonia, said Flynn Battaglia quickly emerged as the clear front-runner during the RFQ (Requests For Qualifications) evaluation phase among 10 other firms. “They were ranked No. 1, and the second-ranked proposal was more than 2 points behind,” Mr. Kessler said in describing the rather considerable gap separating Flynn Battaglia from its nearest competitor.

SUNY Fredonia has picked a Connecticut architectural firm to prepare design and construction plans for the new high technology business incubator to be erected in the City of Dunkirk. JCJ Architecture of Hartford was selected from among three firms interviewed to design the facility that will be able to accommodate 10 to15 start-up firms that require high technology infrastructure.
