More than 1,400 SUNY Fredonia students were honored in Steele Hall Arena today as President Dennis L. Hefner, for the final time in his 16-year tenure, conferred bachelor’s and master’s degrees and advanced certificates. Commencement at Fredonia included two nearly identical events at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to accommodate the large number of undergraduate and graduate students as well as their family and friends, many of whom traveled great distances to join them for this memorable occasion. Both ceremonies featured remarks from President Hefner, Fredonia College Council Chair Frank Pagano, keynote speaker and SUNY Fredonia alumnus Dale Cooter, and Senior Class President Maggie Oliver.

Lori M. Dispenza, a U.S. Army Veteran and scholarship recipient at SUNY Fredonia, has been selected to speak May 28 at the 15th annual Memorial Day observance at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial in Arlington, Va. Dispenza, who served for 12 years in the Army, is now a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in criminal justice.

Electronics recycling drive tally tops 70,000 pounds

More than 70,000 pounds of electronics equipment – enough to fill 69 skids -- was collected at SUNY Fredonia’s annual community household recycling drive April 21. Members of the men’s soccer team gave yeoman’s service by pitching in to unload a steady stream of nearly 600 vehicles on Ring Road, near the Services Complex, during the four-hour collection.
