Actor Evan Harrington, ’98, who is currently part of the Broadway cast of “Phantom of the Opera,” will return to campus the week of November 16 for a series of engagements, including a short concert on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s Bartlett Theater.

Travel/adventure filmmaker Fran Reidelberger will personally narrate his film “The Best of Bavaria” beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s King Concert Hall. Tickets for “The Best of Bavaria” will be available at the door. One child is admitted free with each adult ticket. Seating for this event is general admission.
 

Hailed as “a deftly zany absurdist comedy” and as “comic genius” by critics, “Fuddy Meers” will open Friday, Nov. 6 and run through Saturday, Nov. 14 in Bartlett Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center. It is a Department of Theatre and Dance production for the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music, in cooperation with the Department of Theatre and Dance, will present four performances of “La Bohème” in Marvel Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center. Performance dates and times are Nov. 12, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

“Continuum: The MacKrell Collage Archive” by Gerald Mead will be featured in the art gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center. The exhibit will open Friday, Oct. 30 with a reception in the art gallery lobby beginning at 7 p.m.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music Rosch Musical Art Series will present its fourth annual collaborative concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) on Friday, October 30, at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus.  The world-class symphony will be led by JoAnn Falletta, acclaimed by The New York Times as “one of the finest conductors of her generation.” YouTube carries an interview with Natasha Farny.

Family-oriented fun is set to take center stage when Mo Willems’ Pigeon returns to Rockefeller Arts Center. The Kaleidoscope Family Series will present “Pigeon Party!” on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. Squeezing all the fun of the first three Pigeon books into one raucous production, this lively show for children ages four and up is full of fun, feathers, laughter and excitement. It features original music and lots of audience participation.

The Fredonia School of Music announced three showcase concerts to celebrate Family Weekend Oct. 16, 17, and 18. Friday night the students and faculty will present the Choral Showcase Concert; Saturday the College Symphony Orchestra will perform and Sunday, King Concert Hall is the venue for the Band Showcase Concert.

Family-friendly theatre will take center stage at the State University of New York at Fredonia this month as the Department of Theatre and Dance presents E.B. White’s beloved family classic “Charlotte’s Web” from Oct. 16 to 24 in Marvel Theatre. For convenience of children, all evening shows start at 7 p.m.

As a professor of digital foundations at SUNY Fredonia, Peter Tucker has a unique artistic style. His work is characterized by a playful attitude of exploration and questioning. He is one of the newest members of the faculty in Visual Arts and New Media.  “I like the closeness of the community here at SUNY Fredonia,” Tucker said. “It is lovely to have an arts department this strong at such as small school.”

Ireland has long been a favorite destination for world travelers — and the Emerald Isle serves as the first stop in the 2009-10 World Travel Series. The travel/adventure film “Irish Stories and Glories” will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s King Concert Hall. The film series is sponsored by Fredonia Place as part of the 2009-10 Lake Shore Savings Season.

Maestro Glen Cortese will explore the romantic side of three of the world’s greatest composers when the Western New York Chamber Orchestra opens its 2009-10 Classics Series with “The Great Romantics.”  The concert is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. A pre-concert talk will be held at 3 p.m. in the art gallery lobby.

For a third straight season, Lake Shore Savings has made a major investment in performing arts programming at the State University of New York at Fredonia.  The Dunkirk-based financial institution has again pledged $10,000 as the season sponsor at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center.

Rockefeller Arts Center is pleased to present “Simply Sinatra” on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the campus of the State University of New York at Fredonia. The concert is the opening event in the 2009-10 DFT Communications Pops Series. Frank Warren, the sole founder and curator of the PostSecret Project, will offer a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. in King Concert Hall.  The project is a collection of over 200,000 highly personal and artfully decorated postcards mailed to him anonymously from around the world, which are described as “displaying the soulful secrets we never voice.” The talk will be followed by a question and answer session and book-signing.

The school year begins with the annual Concerto Competition on Sunday, September 13 at 1 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. This event is free and open to the public.  This year, fourteen music majors vie for the honor of performing a solo with one of the School’s premiere ensembles.

Eight of SUNY Fredonia’s best student vocalists will help bring the 2009 Commencement Eve pops concert, Bernstein on Broadway, to life on Friday, May 15. Selected through auditions held in March, they are Chelsea Grace Clasier, Rick Doetterl, Crystal Gramkee, Kate Mulberry, Mark Andrew Reeve, Amy E. Shake, Boris Van Druff, and Jason Weisinger.

When the process of bringing the current production of “Romeo and Juliet” to life began, director Tom Loughlin had a clear vision of what he wanted to do. Instead of setting the production, which opened April 24 in Marvel Theatre at SUNY Fredonia, in a specific time period, Loughlin set out to “create a world for the play which blends the Elizabethan classic and traditional feel of the play with a contemporary style and look.”
