The Fredonia School of Music is planning several special concerts for Homecoming, including the ever-popular Alumni Jazz Concert featuring jazz artists who got their start as students in the Fredonia Jazz Ensemble during the early 1970s.The concert will take place Friday, Oct. 9,. at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students, and in light of that sobering statistic, SUNY Fredonia will again co-sponsor the 6th annual "Out of the Darkness" walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and to raise awareness of the issue and the help that is available for students at risk. The three-mile walk takes place locally on Saturday, Oct. 10, starting at 1 p.m. at the campus clocktower.

Fredonia State alumna Julia Hopson is a finalist for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Hopson and eight other finalists were named Wednesday by the NCAA on its website. The annual award recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in their sports, in the classroom, as leaders, and for their service to others.
