Local music lovers can feast their ears on magnificent chamber works performed by some of the world’s most talented young artists as The Quartet Program launches its fourth season in residence at SUNY Fredonia. concert season begins with a weekend of quartet and sonata concerts July 2 through 4 in Mason Hall.

Fredonia's Lyric Arts International singers will present Musica e Cantante at a concert Tuesday, May 5, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music will wrap up of The Art of Guitar Series with a classical guitar performance and master class given by guest artist Roland Dyens on Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Dyens is a Tunisian-French classical guitarist, composer, and arranger. On Wednesday, he will teach a master class and give a composition seminar.

The Fredonia Percussion Ensemble will perform selections from their recent concert at Alfred University. For the Fredonia concert, the group is joined by Ms. Julie Newell in a performance of "Here and There," music by Jonathan Golove and lyrics by Susan Lewis.

The College Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. David Rudge and Fredonia Women’s Chorus under the direction of Dr. Gwen Coleman Detwiler will perform together Wednesday, April 22, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.

Fredonia music professor Dr. Rob Deemer will have a 30-minute long composition for women’s chorus, orchestra and soloists premiered on the College Chamber Orchestra concert on April 22 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall

The Center for Multicultural Affairs announced the winners of the 2009 Rosa Parks Memorial Scholarship Competition, who will be honored at the annual ceremony April 7 at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The honorees will present their prize-winning submissions and be feted at the reception following in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center.

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music will present a Faculty Showcase Recital on Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall. Nearly two dozen performers will be featured. The program will include works by faculty members John Bacon and Rob Deemer, and others. The event is free and open to the public.

Fresh from their March concert tour of Puerto Rico, School of Music Professors James Piorkowski, guitar, and Susan Royal, Flute, will perform together as part of the Fredonia School of Music Faculty Concert Series in Rosch Recital Hall on March 24, 2009 at 8 p.m as part of the 2009 Art of Guitar Concert Series.

Cellist Natasha Farny and guests from the Sewanee Summer Music Festival will perform a free concert of French music for strings and piano on Sunday, March 8 at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The program will feature music written in Paris by Chopin, Koechlin, Debussy and Ravel.

Pianists Amy Williams and Hilary Demske will continue the 9th Annual NewSound Festival at SUNY Fredonia by performing in concerts on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 28, both at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. NewSound is an annual event highlighting new music which is sponsored by the student group, Ethos New Music Society, at SUNY Fredonia. Both concerts are free and open to all.

In an event they’re calling “Monday Night Live,” students will have the opportunity to learn from drummer Shawn Pelton of Saturday Night Live fame in a clinic, followed by the artist’s solo performance at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Both events are free and open to all.

Award-winning poet and soldier Brian Turner, author of the book, "Here, Bullet," will read from his harrowing and beautiful first-person account of the Iraq War on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall, accompanied by music performed by Rob Deemer of the Fredonia School of Music.

Join the Ethos New Music Society, SUNY Fredonia's completely student-run organization dedicated to new music, as it presents the internationally recognized "Bowed Piano Ensemble" in concert on Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $2 for students and senior citizens.

"Sharon Katz and the Peace Train in Concert,” a showcase of music and dance that contributed to the tearing down of Apartheid barriers in South Africa, will be presented as the next SUNY Fredonia Convocation event on Wed., Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. Making history in 1992, the group courageously formed South Africa's first 500-member, multi-racial performance group.

The theme of the 2009 Art of the Guitar Concert Series is Composer’s Alive! Each concert will feature music written for the guitar by living composers, which will include many world premiere performances.

Telarc International, a prominent record label in classical music, has picked the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall at SUNY Fredonia to record the debut album of 16-year-old violinist Caroline Goulding, a rising talent who has already performed with major orchestras in Cleveland and Detroit and won several young-artist honors.
