The striking, nearly 1,600-cubic-foot sculpture known as “Popeye,” which has called the front walkway of Rockefeller Arts Center home for two years, has become a permanent installation on campus, resting on a concrete foundation just feet from where it has pleased observers since first brought to campus in 2007.

William Shakespeare’s timeless tale of two young star-crossed lovers has been brought to life by the Department of Theatre and Dance to close out the 2008-09 Walter Gloor Mainstage season. Directing the Mainstage production will be Tom Loughlin, who is creating "a world for the play which blends the Elizabethan classic and traditional feel of the play with a contemporary style and look.”

The program includes Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 6, Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture, and Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concerto for Saxophone, in which Zumwalt will be featured.

The works of three Buffalo-based artists will be featured in the main art gallery in Rockefeller Arts Center beginning March 6. The community will also have the opportunity to hear the two of the artists talk more about their works. Entitled “Figure and Form: Explorations of Humanity,” the exhibit will feature selected paintings by Bruce Adams, Jackie Felix and George Hughes.

Over 300 high school students and chaperones from 11 schools attended the semi-annual Drama Dance Day hosted by the SUNY Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance. After a welcome and information on admissions from Associate Professor Ted Sharon, some of the students attended workshops including Stage Combat with Professor Sharon, Computer Technology with Associate Professor Todd Profitt, Jazz Dance with Assistant Professor Samantha Kenney, and Costume Silhouette/Rendering with Assistant Professor Dixon Reynolds.
