Honorees are Joseph Baxter, network security administrator, ITS; Darlene Burchett, janitor, Facilities Services; Patricia Feraldi, director, Alumni Affairs; and Dr. Keary Howard, professor, Mathematical Sciences.

The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in King Concert Hall. Dr. Katherine Levy and John Krestic will conduct.

Buckley will relate experiences and answer questions about such issues as negotiating tensions and keeping harmony within a prison among the inmates and staff members.

Four Fredonia School of Music student guitarists will present the last Children's Concert of the season on Saturday morning, April 20, at the Dunkirk Free Library.

“Wasting Away,” the theme of SUNY Fredonia’s 2013 Earth Week observance, examines the disposal nature of society — how a myriad of items, starting with food packaging and plastic beverage containers made for one-time use — are wreaking havoc with a planet being adversely impacted by dwindling resources and climate change. The keynote address, “The Perils of Plastic: Notes from the Ocean and Great Lakes,” will be presented by the research team of Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummings, co-founders of 5 Gyres Institute, on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall.

The event--which boasted 50 readings last year--will celebrate the literature taught and loved by the late English Professor Dr. Dunn for 35 years. It is held during National Poetry Month and promotes the art of reading aloud.

Back on top of the heap – literally – is where SUNY Fredonia ranks among SUNY schools in the just concluded 2013 RecycleMania competition.

The SUNY Fredonia Enactus team was once again named Regional Champions at the annual Enactus (formerly Students in Free Enterprise, or SIFE) Regional Competition. This was the 16th consecutive time that a Fredonia team has been honored as such at its regional competition.

The incubator’s first graduate, Textivia, was represented by co-owner Dave Christopher, who shared his company’s future plans to grow. Textivia moved from the incubator into Dunkirk office space in October and has since hired five employees to serve its more than 100 clients. Other Incubator businesses that showed off their accomplishments last week included AVtick, Silicon Wolves Computing Society, STASH Sporting Goods and V3 Studios.

Fredonia Radio Systems, WNYF-TV, Teacher’s Education Club, and Sound Services will present the 10th annual Rockin' the Commons event Saturday, April 13, in Steele Hall.

The SUNY Fredonia Safe Zone Committee will host a series of events during Ally Week, Monday through Friday, April 15-19, to raise awareness of issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender/transsexual individuals with the goal of creating an open and just university.

The History Department at SUNY Fredonia is hosting the conference, "Shifting Paradigms in Religious Studies: History, Culture, and Practice," on Friday and Saturday this week.  In keeping with SUNY Fredonia's 2012-2013 Convocation Theme, "Time for Change: Shifting Paradigms, Creating Possibilities," the conference will highlight new work being done in religious studies in both western and non-western contexts.

The Faculty Student Association will be holding its annual Community Meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

Children, ages 7-16, are invited to campus to spend the morning with their parents to learn about their duties and responsibilities. At 11:30 a.m., children can join their parents for a buffet-style lunch offered free.

Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummins, whose extensive survey of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans was expanded to include the Great Lakes, will deliver the Earth Week keynote address, “The Perils of Plastic: Notes from the Oceans and the Great Lakes,” on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Working women who are finding it increasingly difficult to “have it all” are invited to attend “Fit, Well and Working,” the 2013 Spring Program of the Council for Women’s Concerns, on Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at the Bob Steele Multipurpose Room.  Penny Hite, chair of the Sports Management and Exercise Science Department at SUNY Fredonia, will serve as the principal speaker.

SUNY Fredonia’s Colleges Against Cancer student group will host the annual Relay for Life event to benefit the American Cancer Society on Saturday, April 20, at 4 p.m. until Sunday, April 21.
