The “Student of the Month” honor for November has been awarded by Residence Life to Joanna Kaufmann, a junior from Wantagh, N.Y., who has shown the ability to excel at everything she does.
For the last two semesters, Kaufmann, who has a major in Public Relations and minor in Public Health, has been a resident assistant at Eisenhower Hall. She has organized several successful programs there, winning “Program of the Month” laurels and receiving runner-up recognition for others. She was a member of the Disney Hall Council in the fall of 2011. Kaufmann is currently secretary for RAAB (Resident Assistant Advisory Board) and president of the Applied Communications Association.
Kaufmann is able to excel at everything she puts her mind to, said Katie Meister, residence director, who nominated Kaufmann for the award.
As coordinator of Fall Sweep 2012, Kaufmann exhibited superior organizational skills in planning by ensuring that more than 500 participants knew their roles to assist the community of Fredonia. Her positive attitude and influence in the campus community ripples into the greater Fredonia community. Kaufmann also served as the “Christmas on the Lake” intern in the fall semester.
Kaufmann identifies the “friendly faces all over campus” as her favorite things on campus. “Fredonia offers endless opportunities and resources to students so that they can get involved on campus and prepare themselves for their own careers,” she said. Kaufmann considers SUNY Fredonia her second home and would not change anything about her experiences here.
She plans to remain engaged in current activities. Following graduation in 2014, Kaufmann plans to travel in Europe before embarking on a career in hospital administration.
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community. If you would like to nominate a student, visit the website.
