Students/residents from NY state disaster counties eligible to vote locally
Tuesday, November 06, 2012
We have been notified by the Chautauqua County Board of Elections that Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an Executive Order which provides for a voter who is a resident in the federally-declared disaster counties of Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester, as well as residents of New York City (which includes Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond) who have been displaced by Hurricane Sandy to be able to vote an affidavit ballot at any poll site in Chautauqua County or New York State, other than their regular poll site.
Fredonia State College students who come from one of these affected areas should report to Election District 3 at the Wheelock School, 75 Chestnut St., in the village of Fredonia to receive an Affidavit Ballot. Other voters should go to any poll site available.
Once the ballot is received in Mayville, N.Y., after the close of polls this evening, those ballots belonging in any of the declared disaster counties will be transmitted by Chautauqua County to those county boards. The disaster county board receiving the ballot will then cast the ballot with other affidavit and emergency ballots, counting only those votes for contests and questions for which the voter was eligible to vote in their home county.
If you have any questions, please contact the Chautauqua County Board of Elections at 753-4580.
