Student members of Fredonia Radio Systems attended the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems (IBS) National Conference in New York City during Spring Break, where they walked away with three awards. The station won for best on-air personality, best event promotion and most creative show.

Fredonia Radio Systems was also named a platinum station for its excellence in performance and structure according to IBS guidelines.  Overall, it had received five award nominations.  The organization was also a top finalist for both best Web site and best radio drama.

“I think winning these awards were a testament to how hard we all have worked at the station and in the classroom to win over bigger schools with more members,” said Jud Heussler, WDVL program director and winner of the best on-air personality award.

The IBS conference is several days’ worth of sessions about the business and art of radio. The 71st annual conference in New York City was attended by students from colleges, high schools and community radio stations. “The conference was informative and I feel it gave me great ideas to bring back to the station” said Carolyn Henretta, news director of Fredonia Radio Systems.
