A journey through the German state of Bavaria is on tap as the World Travel Series continues on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the State University of New York at Fredonia. The film opens with a sequence in Munich, including the famed Oktoberfest and the new BMW World attraction. It moves through Nurnberg, the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, the Bavarian Forest wildlife preserve and includes a look at glass making in Zwiesel.

The second half of the film includes a maypole raising ceremony in Unterwoessen, a special festival honoring local artisans, complete with everyone in historical attire, in Bad Tolz and a cow festival in the Allgau.

Other attractions along the way include chocolate making in Bamberg, the Hummel figurines in Coburg, sausages and history and a high Mass for firemen at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Regensburg and the Regensburg boys’ choir in concert. There’s also a look at a modern spa complete with indoor surfing in Bad Tolz, a detailed sequence on the old art museum and another detailed indoor sequence at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich and all three of Mad Ludwig’s fairytale palaces, complete with interiors.

Reidelberger said he was born to be a traveler, noting he “has been chasing mountains to see what’s on the other side” since his childhood days in Illinois.

He was a basketball player in school but noted his prime motivation “was not the roar of the crowd, but the opportunity to travel, even if it was on a bus that broke down as often as not.”

His major studies were history and journalism at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. and Central Michigan University.

The U.S. Navy gave him an opportunity to continue his travels ─ from coast to coast in the United States and throughout the Far East with stops in Hong Kong, Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines.

While stationed at Pearl Harbor, Reidelberger began a 14-year career in daily newspaper work. He started as a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and ended as editor of the Decatur, Ill. Herald and Review. He won a number of awards for writing, editing, newspaper design and creative use of news photos.

Reidelberger is married to the former Brooke Metcalf, daughter of the late James W. Metcalf, a highly regarded travel film producer and lecturer.

Mrs. Reidelberger was a magazine photographer and travel consultant. Together the Reidelbergers joined the travelogue profession in 1977.

They love people and believe if the people of the world understood one another just a little better, there would be less chance for hostility and more chance for world peace. Their color films are made with that objective in mind. The films are described as being informative, interesting, and exciting productions.

Reidelberger appears regularly on all of the major travel lecture platforms, including the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C., and Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa. When not traveling the world, the Reidelbergers make their home in Grayling, Mich.

The World Travel Series is sponsored by Fredonia Place as part of the 2009-10 Lake Shore Savings Season. Tickets for “The Best of Bavaria” will be available at the door. One child is admitted free with each adult ticket. Seating for this event is general admission.
