Authority on internet learning is keynote speaker at tech conference

A worldwide authority on learning and teaching via the internet will deliver the keynote address at the four-day SUNY-sponsored Conference on Instructional Technologies being held at SUNY Fredonia May 30 to June 2. The CIT conferences are held each year on different SUNY campuses and are open to the public.

Dr. Curtis J. Bonk will speak Thursday, June 1, at 8:30 a.m. in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. Dr. Bonk is also leading two workshops during the conference. His highly popular book, "Handbook of Blended Learning Environments: Global Perspectives, Local Designs," was published by Pfeiffer Publishing in December 2005. He teaches at Indiana University and is also a senior research fellow for the Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning Lab.

Entitled, “Envisioning Tomorrow’s Classroom: Learning without Limits,” the SUNY CIT conference is open to all professionals, teachers, and technologists interested in the topic. Registration can be accomplished online. Early registration ends on Friday, May 5 and registration closes on May 19.

This is the first time the annual conference has been hosted at SUNY Fredonia. Last year, the event was held at SUNY Binghamton, and the year prior at SUNY Stony Brook.

Pre-conference workshops are lined up for Tuesday, May 30. Among the early workshops are “Be All You Can Be – Teach!” presented by author Tara Gray of New Mexico State University. She will also present “Publish and Flourish: Become a Prolific Scholar,” based on her book by the same name.

In addition to hosting the event, SUNY Fredonia will be represented by two workshop presenters. Professors Kathleen Gradel and Michael Jabot from the College of Education will present “Active Student Responding Using A Technology-based Teaching and Course Enhancement Tool,” a workshop that considers the use of cutting-edge technology such as the Classroom Performance System (CPS) to allow students to achieve greater classroom engagement.
