The Class of 2009 went out in style, as nearly 1,300 strong were conferred with undergraduate and graduate degrees by SUNY Fredonia's faculty and administration, while thousands of proud family and friends stood by. Joining them to help celebrate their Commencement ceremonies were keynote speaker and New York State Senator Cathy Young, as well as U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer.

This student guitar ensemble, directed by Music Professor James Piorkowski, has been invited to perform at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla (May 22nd), the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos de Segovia - a 15th-century palace in Nieva (May 24), and at the Universidad de Oviedo (May 26).

SUNY Fredonia has officially closed its freshman admissions process — the earliest date the university has ever done so — and will no longer accept any further freshman applications for the Fall 2009 semester. Based on availability, some accepted students may still send in their deposit until June 5 to ensure a space within the Class of 2013, and graduate and transfer student applications will be accepted well into the summer.

Ground was broken for SUNY Fredonia’s new Campus and Community Children’s Center, and in addition to the many campus and elected officials who played a role, a small platoon of youngsters under the age of six donned miniature hard hats and wielded plastic sand shovels to help celebrate the latest example of growth on campus.
