French composers of the 20th and 21st centuries are the focus of the annual “Nusound” symposium at SUNY Fredonia, presented by the student-run
Ethos New Music Society Feb. 16 through 21. Guest lecturer David Grayson will discuss Claude Debussy, whose music defines the transition from the late 19th century Romantic music to 20th century Modernist music.

Piano Professor Sean Duggan and Cello Professor Natasha Farny will present a two-night recital series featuring the complete Beethoven sonatas for cello and piano. Free and open to all, the concerts will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10 in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall in Mason Hall.

“Muhammad Ali – The Photographs of Sonia Katchian” is on exhibit at Reed Library through February 28 as part of the college’s Black History Month events. The public can view the exhibit during Reed Library’s regular hours of Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The newly-completed $612,000 sound recording studio and control room at SUNY Fredonia was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 a.m. SUNY Fredonia President Dennis L. Hefner, New York State Senator Catharine M. Young, New York State Assemblyman William L. Parment, and School of Music Director Karl Boelter made brief remarks about the value and history of the project.
