On Wednesday, Nov, 11, the campus will welcome reality TV star Ruthie Alcaide, one of the more unique and memorable cast members of the hit MTV series, “The Real World," as a guest speaker for its Diversity Day. Events start at noon and she speaks at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center.

SUNY Fredonia will hold a memorial service for U.S. veterans on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose room. The ceremony will include the presentation of the first SUNY Fredonia Veterans Scholarship award to Charlene Miller, a U.S. Army veteran and current member of the National Guard.

President Dennis L. Hefner will participate on a panel at the regional event, “What the New Era of Reform Means for Higher Education,” to be hosted by the College Board and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the State University of New York at Albany.

A $5,000 Learning and Leadership Grant for a project designed to enhance the learning of science teacher candidates has been awarded by the National Education Association Foundation to Dr. Kathleen Lesniak of the SUNY Fredonia College of Education and Milissa Albano, a Fredonia alumna and mentor chemistry teacher at Southwestern High School in Lakewood, N.Y.

Bringing an opera production to life is a great challenge. Marrying a dramatic work with a musical score to create a moving work of art requires collaboration on many levels by many individuals. Some behind-the-scenes insight into this year’s production was offered as an Arts and Humanities Brown Bag Lecture Series presented by SUNY Fredonia on Nov. 4.

Reggie Watkins, a professional trombonist who has performed with such jazz and pop music icons as Dave Matthews, Dianne Schuur and Maynard Ferguson, will join the SUNY Fredonia Jazz Workshop on Sunday, Nov. 8.  He will first conduct a master class at 3 p.m., followed by a concert at 8 p.m., accompanied by the Fredonia Jazz Ensemble.  Both events are free and open to the public, and will take place in Rosch Recital Hall.

SUNY Fredonia is tapping the minds of some of the most talented and successful science, technology and education professionals in the world to help design its new Science and Technology Center. Though they’re spread across the U.S., these 14 individuals share one common trait: all are SUNY Fredonia graduates.

Travel/adventure filmmaker Fran Reidelberger will personally narrate his film “The Best of Bavaria” beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s King Concert Hall. Tickets for “The Best of Bavaria” will be available at the door. One child is admitted free with each adult ticket. Seating for this event is general admission.
