Senior Sean Larson threw a complete game, knocking off No. 7 Cortland 3-1 to end the season.
Fredonia State's ace Sean Larson continued his dominance of SUNYAC opponents on Saturday, this time taking down No. 7 Cortland State. Larson tossed a complete game, winning 3-1.
Larson surrendered six hits, struck out six and allowed one walk improving his record to 4-3 on the season. He is coming off a 1-0 shutout of Oneonta, and took his previous two starts into the final inning before allowing a score.
Tied 1-all in the seventh inning, freshman Ciro Frontale singled with one out. After a fielder's choice by junior Ricky Mendiola, senior Kyle Koslowski singled to put runners at first and second. A wild pitch moved both into scoring position setting the table for freshman Mike Prentice. The slugging leftfielder drilled his third hit of the afternoon to plate both runs.
The Devils struck first in the first inning. With two outs, Mendiola, Koslowski, Prentice and senior Bobby Frantz singled to plate the game's first run.
Cortland scored its only run in the second. Max Rosing opened the frame with a swinging bunt. A stolen base, then a single by Chris Jackson plated the Red Dragon's only run.
The Devils out-hit Cortland, 13-6. In addition to Prentice's three hits, Frontale, Koslowski, Frantz and Kenny Johnston all had two hits.
The Devils finish the season at 11-20, and 6-12 in the SUNYAC. Cortland improves to 27-8 and 15-3, earning the SUNYAC regular-season title.
