'Jammin' for Jessa' to memorialize Sigma Kappa member
Thursday, April 10, 2014
Sigma Kappa sorority will host its annual Jammin’ for Jessa fundraiser, a night full of musical performances, in honor of Jessa Webber, a member who passed away as a result of cancer, on Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
Some of SUNY Fredonia’s a cappella groups including Some Like It Hot, The Riveters and Much More Chill, along with the student-run band Mooses, will be performing throughout the night. Tickets will be available for various themed basket raffles and everyone attending will be entered to win a mini Ipad. Tickets for the event will be available for the public to purchase at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office for $5. Refreshments will be served.
Proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life and Jessa’s Quest, a non-profit foundation created in Webber’s honor to raise funds that support organizations caring for children with life‐threatening illnesses and contribute to research for finding a cure for brain cancer. In December 2013, Jessa’s Quest was able to donate $20,000 to Women and Children's Pediatric Neurology and Oncology Services and $1,000 to the Ronald McDonald's House Walkway of Love Project.
Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumor while attending Kenmore West High School, Webber enrolled at SUNY Fredonia in 2007 to study business. During her time as a student, she was dedicated to Sigma Kappa and participated in the a variety of philanthropic events, such as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and continued her support for Relay for Life, which she began in high school. After a seven year battle with cancer, Webber passed away during her junior year in 2010.
