Friday, March 29, 2013

Birger Vanwesenbeeck, associate professor of English, has just been accepted to participate in a seminar at the Summer Institute for Literary Studies at the National Humanities Center in North Carolina this June.

The seminar will be taught by nationally renowned Marxist scholar Walter Benn Michaels and will focus on Tom McCarthy’s 2007 novel Remainder and on the issues it raises involving contemporary art and politics. It will allow Dr. Vanwesenbeeck to further develop his ongoing scholarship on the relationship between word, image, and mourning in literature. Participation in the seminar carries a stipend of $1500 and, additionally, covers all costs related to travel, lodging, books, and meals.
